Welding Controlling

Parameters

1. Welding Current (A)

• Controls: Heat input, Melting rate

↑ High: Deep penetration, Large bead, Distortion risk

↓ Low: Poor bonding, Lack of fusion

2. Arc Voltage (V)

• Controls: Arc length, Bead shape

↑ High: Wider/Flatter beads, Porosity risk

↓ Low: Narrow/Tall beads, Unstable arc

3. Wire Feed Speed (WFS)

• Controls: Deposition rate

↑ High: More material, Larger bead, Surface quality risk

↓ Low: Thin beads, Weak walls

4. Travel Speed

• Controls: Heat input per unit length

↑ High: Narrow beads, Poor fusion

↓ Low: Excess heat, Distortion, Sagging

5. Heat Input (Combined)

• Formula: (I × V) / Travel Speed

↑ High: Coarse grains, Lower strength, Stress

↓ Low: Fine grains, Better strength, Fusion risk

6. Shielding Gas

• Controls: Weld pool protection

• Flow issues: Porosity, Oxidation, Turbulence

• Types: Argon, Ar+CO2, Ar+He

7. Interlayer Temperature

• Controls: Cooling rate between layers

↑ High: Soft microstructure, Low accuracy

↓ Low: Better shape, Cracking risk

8. Torch Angle & Stick-Out

• Controls: Arc stability, Bead placement

• Angle issues: Irregular beads, Poor stacking

• Long Stick-out: Unstable, Low heat

9. Layer Height & Path

• Controls: Geometry & Accuracy

↑ Large: Faster build, Poor finish

↓ Small: Better accuracy, Long build time
