Stage I
Carcinoma confined to cervix (ignore extension to uterine corpus)

IA: Invasive carcinoma diagnosed only by microscope, with maximum depth of invasion < 5 mm


• IA1: Stromal invasion < 3 mm

• IA2: Stromal invasion > 3 mm

• IB: Invasive carcinoma with deepest invasion ≥ 5 mm, but still limited to cervix

• IB1: Invasion ≥ 5 mm but < 2 cm

• IB2: Invasion ≥ 2 cm but < 4 cm

• IB3: Invasion ≥ 4 cm

Stage II
Carcinoma beyond uterus, without extension to lower third of vagina or to pelvic wall
IIA: Limited to upper two-thirds of vagina, without parametrial involvement


• IIA1: Invasion < 4 cm

• IIA2: Invasion ≥ 4 cm

• IIB: Parametrial involvement without extension to pelvic wall

Stage III
Carcinoma involves lower third of vagina, extends to pelvic wall, causes hydronephrosis or nonfunctioning kidney, or involves pelvic/para-aortic lymph nodes
IIIA: Involves lower third of vagina, no extension to pelvic wall


• IIIB: Extension to pelvic wall and/or hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney

• IIIC: Lymph node involvement (pelvic and/or para-aortic), regardless of tumor size or extent

• IIIC1: Pelvic lymph node metastasis only

• IIIC2: Para-aortic lymph node metastasis

Stage IV
Carcinoma beyond the true pelvis or involving mucosa of bladder or rectum
IVA: Spread to adjacent pelvic organs


• IVB: Spread to distant organs
